Tyrrel’s Wood

(Last visited August 2018)

This has become increasingly popular since we first visited a few years ago – if you can, I’d recommend a visit during the week rather than the weekend. Really close (about half a mile drive) to the fantastic Goodies Food Hall which has a café, farm shop, toilets and play area. Our little girl absolutely loves it here. There were small bridges to cross, tree stumps to examine, dens to play in and some boarded walks which became her ‘runways’. The end furthest away from the car park can get much muddier than the first part after wet weather. Although many paths are flat, I know some friends have struggled with a pushchair here due to mud and a narrow board-walk.

It is a circular walk but you can take different routes to get to the same destination. A fantastic family-friendly walk, but consider the timing of your visit and avoid visiting soon after wet weather. I drove past at the weekend and it was heaving, with cars parked all along the verges, so a week-day visit might be prudent.

🌿 Length of walk: about 1.5 miles round – leads on to the Bouddica Way for extra distance
🌿 Café: No – however, the FANTASTIC Goodies Farm Shop is nearby (IP21 4XU – www.goodiesfoodhall.co.uk)
🌿 Toilets: No, but Goodies has
🌿 Pushchairs: I’d say no, although I’ve seen people with off-roaders there. Some quite thin boarded walks which wide pushchairs might struggle with. Woodland path (no man-made surfaces, leaving it dependent on weather conditions).
🌿 Seating: Yes
🌿 Play area: Goodies has a great play area. Lots of dens in the wood
🌿 Dog friendly: Yes
🌿 Parking: Yes (free) but gets busy at the weekend – IP21 4XW (what3words ///fictional.debut.mooring)
